Sailing Club Clothing
Karla Mortensen is still taking orders for Shell Lake Sailing Club clothes. You can see what they look like on our website, address below.

Sailing Club Web Page
Tim Bauernfeind has set us up with our own web site and we thank him for it. Take a look at shelllakwwwesailingclub.org. I think the site is great. If you want us to add a note that you are looking for a sailboat or have one for sale, let us know.

Sailing Informal Race
On the second Sat. of each summer month, June 13th, July 11th and Aug. 8th, we will resume having our Informal Sailing Races. There will be a little change this year as I have had some volunteers step forward to run these three races for me. This will allow me to participate in these races with my expert crew, Greg Kittelsen.

Broken Rudder Races
The CRAW (Catamaran Racing Association of Wisconsin) will be challenging the (CRAM) Catamaran Racing Association of Minnesota in a series of races that will be held on August 1st and 2nd.  The prize that goes to the winning club is a traveling Broken Rudder.  If you have a catamaran, you can enter the races as some of our members did last year or you can volunteer as a crew member. These are excellent races to watch as they are the best sailors in Wisconsin and Minnesota. If you want to watch them up close out on the water I would suggest anchoring at the turns for the best viewing. Bring your friends out on your pontoon and watch the action.

Sailing Club Social Events
We will have our annual Wine Tasting party on June 30th at the Spooner Market and Grill where Betsy will serve some of her favorite Hors D’oeuvres. Our Wine Tasting Committee comprised of Chip Wood and Edie Kittlesen chose the theme to be called “A Night of Sauvignon.” I will be sending out postcards with the price later but for your info now it will be $20.00 a person paid in advance. We will also have a Pizza party at the Public Beach Park where we launch our sailboats, following the first SIR on June 13th (changed to August 8th). Dennis Wagner has donated $100.00 to the Club for some help we gave him and the Committee has chosen to spend it this way. Come on over and visit with us and have some Pizza, beer, wine and soft drinks.

Sailing Club “Sailor of the Year” Awards
The awards for male & female “Sailor of the Year” for 2009 will be back this year and presented at the 2010 Banquet. This award is presented to the sailor with the lowest total of their finishes (1st, 3rd and 5th =9) in the best 3 of our 5 races. These awards will be made by Mary Dosch at the Brickyard Pottery just north of Barronett. She will be making the awards for our two Regattas also. We are very fortunate to have someone of this talent to make our awards.

Shell Lake Sailing Club Regattas
We will be having two Regattas this year. One will be in conjunction with the Shell Lake Art Show July 4th and the other will be with the Shell Lake Town & Country Days Celebration Sept 6th. I want to thank Dale Johnson for the Easel type sign that I will use to advertise our upcoming sailboat races.

Sailing Lessons
There are a number of members that would like to take sailing lessons and we will try to get this taken care of this year.

For Sale
Lyle Holm has put his sailboat up for sale. It is a Catalina Capri 16.5. He initially bought it from my daughter, sailed it a few times and is now headed to California. It is a very nice sailboat, fiberglass hull, main and jib sails are in good shape. He wants $3500.00 for it with a trailer. He can be reached at 715-520-2424. Dennis Andersen has a boat lift for this size sailboat and also a 2 HP outboard motor.

Shell Lake Sailing Club Dues
The dues will remain at our low bargain rate of $5.00 a year. Check the back of your envelope and see if you are up to date. We had (32) paying members last year.

The mission of the Shell Lake Sailing Club is to bring together people that have an interest in sailing on one of Wisconsin's premiere sailing lakes. Our main objectives are to promote the recreational sport of sailing, educate those interested in becoming sailors, sponsor local regattas, and most importantly . . . getting together to socialize and have FUN!
